Evant ISD Employee and Teacher of the Month for January, 2010

Teacher of the Month: Betsy Clark

Mrs. Betsy Clark is in her 11th year as an educator and she is in her 3rd year at Evant.  She teaches 4th, 5th, and 6th grade English/Language Arts and Writing. She is originally from nearby Gatesville and earned her Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Tarleton State University .  After graduating from TSU she began her teaching career in Copperas Cove at Halstead Elementary School and C. R. Clements Intermediate School .

Mrs. Clark has two sons named Cliff and Matthew, both from Evant.  They graduated in the classes of 2001 and 2002 respectively.  She now lives in the Pearl area surrounded by good neighbors and the peace and quiet of nature.  Her co-teacher, Mrs. Adams said that “Betsy is always looking for creative ways to teach writing.  She works on keeping the students interested and involved with their learning.  It is a pleasure to work with her.  She is always ready to help.”  Mrs. Beth Manning has worked with Betsy many years and she said “I have always been very impressed with her creative approach to teaching, her diligence, and her dedication.”

On receiving this award she stated that “I feel honored and blessed to even be teaching in Evant.  Both the students and staff of this school are like family, and I could not love them more if they were.” She looks forward to coming to work every single day and the hugs from her students that she gets each morning really are valued beyond measure.  “My students' smiles and my fellow teachers' dedication and loyalty to the success of our kids impresses and delights me.  The encouragement and support of our administration is beyond compare.”

Employee of the Month:  Anita Hyatt

Mrs. Anita Hyatt is our January Employee of the Month at Evant ISD.  Mrs. Hyatt has worked as our school’s Cafeteria Director for 19 years.  She was raised in Adamsville , Texas where she attended school through the 8th grade. The Adamsville School then consolidated with Lampasas, so she actually graduated from Lampasas High School .  Her first teacher when she was five years old was Mrs. Catherine Koerth of Evant , Texas .  She also taught both of my kids here in Evant. After High School, she worked at The People's National Bank for five years. She began working at the Evant School District as a substitute teacher and as a bus driver in 1981 under then Superintendent Jackie Williams. She then became a teacher’s aide, which she did until 1984, when she began working in the cafeteria.

She is married to Gordon Hyatt of Adamsville, has 3 children, and four step-children.  Anita and Gordon have “oodles and gobs of grand-kiddos.”  She also said that “ I really enjoy being here at Evant ISD!  It is a great place to work with lots of great people.  It is an honor to be nominated as the Employee of the Month, and it really makes me feel great to know that people appreciate me.”
